How the UK Government Kickstart Scheme has created mutual growth opportunities: Q&A with Rafaella The UK Government Kickstart Scheme provided funding in 2021 and 2022 to create new jobs for 16 to 24 year olds, who may have been at a disadvantage due to less employment opportunities for reasons such as the Covid-19 Pandemic.Project Harar have immensely enjoyed partaking in the scheme, having had three fundraising and administration assistants support us at our current office space in Brighton, Sussex. The roles that the scheme created have been a huge help in tackling a new phase of fundraising that we find ourselves in, during the pandemic. It's been truly inspiring to work with our Kickstarters, Nina, Rafaella and Liz — who have all brought something different to the role. Q&A with Rafaella My name is Rafaella and I recently finished my post graduate studies in Human Rights at the University of Sussex in September (2022).Shortly after completing my post graduate dissertation I joined Project Harar as a Fundraising assistant. This was my first experience of working in an NGO. My experience at Project Harar is something I will never forget, it gave me the opportunity to learn and develop a wide variety of skills over a 6 month period. The skills I developed ranged from: writing formal proposals, supporting on institutional grants, helping with the preparation of fundraising events and assisting with digital content. This practical experience of working in an NGO allowed me to apply my passion for Human Rights to a sector and cause I really cared about — as Project Harar is a relatively small organisation I was able to learn quickly and work with a variety of different people working there. The whole team were really supportive — and it is not everyday that you can say that you’ve worked closely with the CEO of an NGO! Overall, I felt honoured to have worked with an organisation that is providing such important work to those who truly need it.--During my studies I had already started to think about working for a human cause based NGO and the Kickstart scheme just inspired me further. In the future I would love to work with an NGO that specialises in Womens rights and/or Children. As this has always been very important to me. A big thank you to Rafaella for her time at Project Harar!
