Join us for our annual complex mission to Ethiopia! For 2 months every year we aim to treat around 50 patients with complex facial conditions that come from far and wide to Addis Ababa. Conditions range from huge ameloblastoms, noma cases (a facial gangrene) to other head and neck conditions. So if you are a nurse, doctor, anaesthetist, surgeon or dietitian we would love to hear from you! Find out more about our complex mission here

The 2 months begins with 2 weeks of pre-surgery assessment where initial investigations (bloods, scans etc.) are undertaken and we begin to build up patients ready for surgery. During these weeks we have a small team of nurses, doctors and dietitians.

The main medical team flies out to Ethiopia at the end of the pre-surgery weeks and meet to decide which patients can be operated on. There is a two week period of intensive surgery where around 4-6 patients are treated every day. We have two teams of plastic and maxillofacial surgeons operating out of Yekatit-12 hospital in Addis Ababa.

After the patients have been operated on, they are taken to the Cheshire rehabilitation center to recover and stay infection free. A team of nurses and doctors undertakes daily clinics.

It's not all work though! Volunteers can explore the bustling city of Addis Ababa and even take a day or weekend trip away to the ancient churches in Lalibela.

Please get in touch if you would like to be considered for our 2019 mission.

We know we do good things, but sometimes you don't realise it until you see the difference you have made.
