Our cleft work reaches remote communities in the Oromia, SNNPR (Southern Nationalities), Amharar and Afar regions of Ethiopia and we partner with other NGOs in Tigray. Our outreach workers recurit and transport patients to their nearest hospital for surgery and provide them with nutritional support. Post-surgery, we refer patients to speech therapists for those children that need this service (estimated to be around half of all cleft children).

Once a year, we transport patients with complex facial disfigurements to Yekatit-12 Hospital in Addis Ababa where an international team of surgeons from the UK, France and Ethiopia conduct some of the most urgent and necessary complex surgical operations.

We have treated more than 8,000 individuals with facial disfigurements since 2001 and in 2018 we treated 1,000 children and young adults with cleft lip and palate. We have recently started a cleft and nutrition project for children and their mothers in the Afar region of Ethiopia, funded by Comic Relief.

We are seeking partnerships with other like-minded charities and organisations to help us to achieve our aims. If you would like to support us, please e-mail: [email protected]
