Volunteer medical mission - April/May 2013
In April 2013, Project Harar will send out a team of volunteer medics to Addis Ababa, to carry out life changing surgery currently not available in Ethiopia.
The team will provide crucial treatment as well as pre- and post-op care, for around 50 patients with complex facial disabilities. Surgery will take place at a public hospital, Yekatit-12 in Addis Ababa with the assistance of their local medical staff, and pre- and post op care will be provided at a nearby specialist rehabilitation centre, Cheshire Home. The medical team will also provide training and presentations for the local medical staff, enhancing their skills and capacity to carry out complex facial operation in the future.
The team of 12 are made up of one French surgeon, three Dutch medics and NHS staff, including specialist surgeons, nurses and anaethetists, who value the opportunity to share their expertise and provide treatment to those most in need overseas.
