Mohamed Esu, a farmer from a mountainous region in southern Ethiopia, discovered a lump forming on his jaw six years ago, which quickly increased in size. Without a local doctor able to help and unable to afford the journey to the main cities, Mohamed only found medical care when Project Harar's outreach services expanded into the Bale mountains, some 550 bumpy kilometres from Addis Ababa. Mohamed was seen by Project Harar's team of NHS volunteers in April. Tests revealed that Mohamed had an advanced salivary gland tumor normally dealt with at an early stage when it is small. A bigger operation was required, which was carried out alongside surgeons from Yekatit-12 hospital.

Mohamed made a remarkably quick recovery and the results of his surgery were immediately visible. He was delighted with the results of his surgery and passed on his many blessings.
